Beau Rivage Serves Up Green Drinks on Earth Day

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t the only time to Go Green!

BILOXI, Miss – Beau Rivage Resort & Casino will host an eco-friendly Earth Day celebration on Thursday, April 22 with “Green Drinks.” The gathering is an informal, self-organizing collective of locals who get together once a month to meet, network, discuss projects, learn what is going on sustainability-wise in the local community and share ideas on how to reduce energy usage, eliminate waste, and recycle. Beau Rivage will host the event in Jia from 6pm to 8pm with a variety of occasion-specific $7 drinks including the Gulf Stream, Geo Fluid, It Ain’t Easy Being Green and Eco Juice.

The Green Drinks concept was born in London in 1990 and initially had little to do with environmental consciousness. It started as a small group who came together to make professional connections and exchange ideas. Meeting dates and times were spread mainly by word-of-mouth. In 2002, New York became the first US city to participate in the Green Drinks movement. It has since spread to cities around the nation. While it has no set of defined principles, many organizers have turned these social gatherings into opportunities to share their ideas on improving the environment. In Mississippi, Green Drinks gatherings also take place in Jackson and Gulfport.

The Green Drinks event will cap a day-long Earth Day clean-up initiative at Deer Island. Beau Rivage will once again partner with Mississippi Power Company for the Renew Our Rivers campaign. Many Beau Rivage and Hard Rock Biloxi employees will spend Earth Day at Deer Island, working to restore the area to its natural state. Renew Our Rivers started in 2006 and since then volunteers have removed more than 115 tons of debris and litter from waterways such as the Pascagoula and Biloxi Rivers. This will be the third year employees have participated in clean-up efforts.

Beau Rivage Resort & Casino’s property-wide “Always Bet on Green” initiative promotes environmental awareness and conservation.
